Prospective PhD Student in EU Law | Future Academic
My passion is teaching EU Law and becoming an academic, while being of help with my Spanish background. I am sociable, open, passionate and very dedicated in my every task. I love to share my knowledge with others and help students improve in the fields they need.
I will start my PhD in EU law in November, and my specialization is Rule of Law and all things constitutional and institutional in the EU. However, I have been a university teacher (SA) at the University of Groningen for 3 years in EU law as a whole (ex. Institutional and Constitutional, IM, FR, external relations,...). I have taught Bachelor working groups and seminars, helped create course curriculum, exams and assignments, as well as helped with grading these. I have also been a personal tutor for 5 years for all the European Law-related courses in the LLB and LLM at the University of Groningen and sold summaries for these courses (both having very successful results even for the toughest students).
I am from Spain (Madrid). I would be able to help with conversation (pronounciation, fluency,...) and tutoring for those who need additional help with their Spanish courses. I would not provide my own curriculum (as I am not a certified teacher, only a native), I would be guided by what the student wants and/or needs.
I have vast personal experience with legal theses at all university levels, both theoretical and practical. I would be able to help with structure, scope, research questions, methodology, sourcing and more.
ON WORKING STYLE
My moto is: ‘If you understand a concept, you are able to explain it to a 7-year-old’. This means three things about my working style: I am very visual (PPTX or images with tables, graphs, pictures, whatever is more suitable for the topic), I will explain things in easy terms (few words and very easy terminology), and I will revise and ask as many times as needed to make sure the student understands. Once the concepts are understood and a good basis is created, the complexity will slowly increase accordingly.
ON THE TOPICS
EU Law: I would be able to teach from generalist EU Law courses, to advanced specialisations in substantive public law (institutional and constitutional law, IM, Rule of Law and FR). If information is provided in advance of what is needed I would be able to teach any specialisation except competition and tax law.
Thesis guidance: I have written over three university theses, attended multiple academic research and methodology courses over the years, as well as supervised and graded essay submissions and theses, I would be able to guide you through any legal thesis, regardless on the legal topic, on its structure, RQs, methodology, sourcing and more.
Spanish: I would be able to do conversational courses to improve pronounciation and fluency. If information is provided in advance of what is needed I would be able to teach any specific field/topic.
