Hallo! Ik ben Matthijs, en ben een rustig persoon die de tijd zal nemen die nodig is om het methodologische en / of statistische concept waarmee je worstelt te begrijpen. Ik begrijp dat methoden en statistieken voor sommigen moeilijk te bevatten zijn, maar ze volgen altijd een duidelijke logica, en leren is slechts een proces waarin jij die logica ontdekt en begrijpt. Met mij als je tutor is het mijn primaire doel om je te helpen bij het doorlopen van dat proces en je te helpen bij het overwinnen van eventuele belemmeringen die je tegenkomt.

Hello! I am Matthijs, and am a calm person who will take the time needed for you to understand whatever methodological and/or statistical concept that you are struggling with. I understand that methods and statistics are difficult for some to grasp, but they always follows some clear logic, and learning is only a process of you discovering and understanding that logic. Hoe een sessie eruit ziet: aangezien het mijn doel is om je door het leerproces te helpen, zal ik eerst altijd vragen stellen (die retorisch, leidend of concreet kunnen zijn). Als duidelijk wordt dat iets voor jou een belemmering vormt, zal ik je gewoon uitleggen hoe het concept werkt in het tempo dat voor jou het beste werkt, stap voor stap. Soms kan het een beetje frustrerend zijn om niet meteen het antwoord te krijgen, maar je leert weinig als je er niet aan werkt om zelf begrip te krijgen. Daarom concentreer ik me erop je te helpen bij het doorlopen van dat proces van het ontwikkelen van je eigen begrip.
Over mij: ik heb een bachelor liberal-arts afgerond aan het University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, waar ik Cum Laude ben afgestudeerd, en een interdisciplinaire toolkit heb ontwikkeld met onder meer Psychologie, Sociologie, Sociale Geografie, Politicologie, maar vooral: Methoden en Statistiek. Hoe we de realiteit kunnen begrijpen, is voor mij een boeiend onderwerp, en methoden en statistieken geven een antwoord op hoe dit kan worden bereikt. Nu rond ik de sociale en culturele onderzoeksmaster aan de Radboud Universiteit af, tot nu toe met vergelijkbare academische prestaties, waar ik mijn begrip van vergelijkende methodologieën (op individueel, groeps- en maatschappelijk niveau) verdiep. Mijn huidige thematische interesse gaat uit naar hoe samenlevingen diversiteit organiseren en radicaliseringsprocessen, hoewel ik ook van elke goede ontologische, epistemologische en methodologische discussie over welk onderwerp dan ook houd.

What a session would look like: As it is my aim to help you through the process of learning, I will first always ask you question (be they rhetorical, leading, or closed-ended). If it becomes clear that something presents a barrier to you, I will then simply walk you through how the concept works at the pace which works best for you, taking it step by step. At times it can be a little frustrating not to get the answer right away, but you learn little if you do not work towards getting an understanding yourself. This is why I focus on helping you go through that process of developing your own understanding.
About me: I have completed a liberal art bachelor at University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, where I graduated Cum Laude, developed an interdisciplinary toolkit including Psychology, Sociology, Human Geography, Political Science, but most importantly: Methods and Statistics. How we can come to understand reality is for me a fascinating topic, and methods and statistics provides an answer of how this can be achieved. Now, I am completing the social and cultural research master at Radboud University, so far with similar academic achievement, where I am deepening my understanding of comparative methodologies (at the individual, group and societal level). My current thematic interest focuses on to how societies organize diversity and processes of radicalisation, though I also like any good ontological, epistemological and methodological discussion on any topic.
